SRT Objection to Closure – Update

posted in: News | 0

Apologies to our members for the delay in updating you on the proposed closure of the river. Following our emergency meeting on the 22nd November the Slaney River Trust and a number of our members have been active representing the outrage felt by most anglers along the river. We understand that in the region of 100 objections were submitted to Minister Sean Kyne during the consultation period which ended on the 11th December. Since then the Slaney River Trust met with Minister Sean Kyne together with Minister Paul Keogh and TD John Paul Phelan at Leinster House outlining our views as to why the river should remain open to salmon fishing and how the main problem that requires immediate attention is the catastrophic situation at Clohamon where fish are being trapped in the Tailrace. A full report of the meeting will be available soon.

We are disappointed to report that despite this huge effort made by so many people we have not  had a formal response from either IFI or the Minister.

We are now holding another meeting, as requested by numerous members, on Friday 24th February. We will be discussing how we, a strong body representing the river, is going to progress in our desire for the river to remain open to salmon fishing and for a solution to be found to resolve the drastic situation at Clohamon.
